Residents
The Town of Digby is approximately three square kilometres in size and has a population of approximately 2,092.
Government
The Town of Digby elects one mayor and four councillors every four years. Programs and policies recommended by the various standing committees, commissions and boards are carried out by the Chief Administrative Officer and staff.
Transportation
The Town of Digby is well served with an excellent transportation system including a 100 series highway, a ferry service to our neighbouring province of New Brunswick, and the Digby Annapolis Regional Airport offers various aviation services. Highway 101 connects Digby with the rest of Nova Scotia and is served by both Kings Transit and Acadian Bus Lines. Bay Ferries operates the year round ferry service between Digby and Saint John, New Brunswick.
Visitor Information Centre
The Information Centre is located on Shore Road and is open from May to October. There is knowledgeable staff that provides information required for the travelling public.
Recreation Facilities
The Digby Area Recreation Centre provides a centrally located facility housing hockey and curling in the winter and swimming in the summer.
Other facilities throughout the town include soccer fields, a baseball field, and various parks and playgrounds. There is a children’s playground named The Vaughn VanTassell Memorial Playground. It is a community built, modern playground and is named after a long time local Fire Chief of the Digby Fire Department and active community member.
Fishermen's Memorial Park
The Town also has a Fishermen’s Memorial Park on Maiden Lane that is a memorial for fishers that were lost at sea. Every July 1st, the Mayor and Councillors of the Town host al Canada Day Barbecue for the community at the park. It is also the location of the annual Fishermen’s Memorial Service held the third Sunday in September.
Annual Festivals
The annual Scallop Days Festival is held each year in early August. Digby is also home to the Wharf Rat Rally, Atlantic Canada’s largest international motorcycle rally that is held each Labour Day weekend.
