Town Hall
The Town of Digby Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan
Commitment:
The Town of Digby Council is dedicated to fostering Equity, Diversity and Inclusion by creating meaningful opportunites that ensure all individuals feel valued, respected and included.
Background:
In 2022, the Province of Nova Scotia passed the Dismantling Racism and Hate Act, which outlines the provincial government's strategy for addressing systemic racism, hate and inequity. Recognizing the vital role that municipalities and villages play in this work, the province’s Equity and Anti-Racism Strategy identified municipalities and villages as the first public sector bodies required to develop equity and anti-racism plans. The Act mandates that municipalities establish a process to identify specific actions that promote equity and combat racism, with a focus on addressing the needs of underrepresented and underserved communities.
Key Objectives:
Education and Training - Council and staff to receive ongoing training.
Collaboration - Continue to build and strengthen community relationships.
Communication - Creating an expansive and comprehensive communication plan.
Internal Policies - Review and ensure all policies incorporate diverse perspectives and voices
Next Steps?
This plan will continue to grow and adapt based on feedback from the community. The Town of Digby is committed to tracking progress through regular evaluations and ongoing conversations with residents. All concerns and comments will be documented and used to inform updates to the plan, which will be reviewed every three years. Our goal is to foster a community where everyone feels welcomed, respected and empowered to thrive. Together, we can make the Town of Digby a more inclusive and supportive place for all. Plan Review Community Engagement Meeting April 9, 2025
The Town of Digby is excited to announce that we are in the process of updating our Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use By-law (LUB).
My time on the council has honed my ability to make thoughtful decisions and seize opportunities that enhance Digby's appeal as a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. As your mayor, I am eager to continue serving the residents and business community of Digby, working tirelessly to ensure our town thrives.
I was first elected to council in 1998 and have had the privilege of serving continuously since then. During this time, I have been honored to be chosen as deputy mayor for two terms.
Serving on numerous town committees in roles ranging from member to vice-chair and chair has provided me with valuable insight into the needs and priorities of our community.
I have always prioritized being accessible and approachable, welcoming concerns and ideas that could benefit both our residents and the town as a whole.
