Councillor Rick Foote

 Councillor Rick Foote

Councillor Rick Foote is one of a family of 14 and very proud of his roots in the area. A native of Plympton, he studied at Barton Consolidated and Digby Regional High Schools graduating in 1972.

With a whole wide world to experience he set off to Ontario where he worked doing pollution research on the Great Lakes, tried out factory jobs, drove truck and ran a coffee wagon. Once the pull of Nova Scotia became too strong to resist, he moved back to Digby and the sea, with a few years sailing to Europe and the Caribbean out of Saint John, and enjoying his off time in Digby County. After trying out the Bay of Fundy run on the Princess of Acadia it was back to school to upgrade navigation credentials and then 20 years as captain on the Digby Neck ferries.

The itch to start a business meant retirement from the ferries and a new start. Digby Print and Promo was born. His passion for the area and the desire to please customers combined to make the business a success and led to the creation of Spring into Summer with a run of 10 years (minus Covid). The trade show was a great opportunity for local businesses and organizations to showcase what they had to offer.

During the time living and operating a business in Digby it became even more apparent what a great town we have and opportunities arose to be involved with Digby Minor Hockey, The Digby & Area Board of Trade, West Nova Chamber of Commerce and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20. Now as councillor he hopes to be able to help Digby move forward and prosper. With new council comes new perspective and Rick has proven he is open to new ideas and he is ready to work with the rest of council to make things happen. Travelling and experiencing a bit of the world has made it clear that this has to be one of the best areas to live anywhere and we should do our best to keep it that way for following generations.
