Councillor Shane Weir
Born and raised in Digby, I was part of the first class at the new Digby Elementary School and part of both the first and last classes at the new and old Digby Regional High School, graduating in 2001. All during my growing up I worked in the fishing industry as a local harvester. After high school, I attended NSCC Kingstec in Kentville, where I pursued trades as a mechanic and electrician. I worked in Digby as an electrician in the community, eventually earning my Red Seal certification. I then joined Union Local 625 in Halifax, which provided the opportunity to work with the Alberta Electrical Union Local 424. Over nearly 11 years in Alberta in the electrical field, I earned my master’s certificate, as well as certifications in welding, instrumentation, safety codes officer, supervisor tickets among lots of others. In 2019, I returned to Digby with my family—my wife and two daughters—to give back to the community I loved so much and spend more time with my family and friends. I joined several local committees, A few are Turning the Tide Grant Committee, school boards, the splash park, and the fishing association. Staying active in the community, I work to develop initiatives that meet our town’s needs. I’m also involved in sports like baseball, hockey, and golf, and have coached youth baseball and soccer. My favourite thing is Fitness, especially bodybuilding, it’s one of my passions in life. I’ve also created community-focused platforms on Facebook, such as Digby Talks and Buy Nothing Digby, to help bring people together.
All and all I love Digby! Its the best place in the world and I want nothing but the best for it and our community and people in it!
